Emotionless?

A comment on sociopaths and emotions:
Sociopaths having an emotional void is a myth. Sociopaths indeed have emotion but it is processed differently, although strong emotion isn't a common trait. Their emotions are directly linked to their physiological needs, as a response to hierarchical actualization (especially since sociopaths always have to be in control. This is simply Social Darwinism), or some idiosyncratic impulse. It all boils down to self interest and brain functions exclusive to sociopaths. This is why we are unempathetical. To fully understand this you'll have to do some research on the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex. Those are the two parts of the brain with the most testing done to show differences of those diagnosed and those without a form of disassociative classification.

Another comment on the topic:
The people in this subreddit are convinced that psychopaths and sociopaths are emotionless drones who never experience genuine feelings for others, but that's an oversimplification.
There are degrees of psychopathy. Not every person who fantasizes about stalking the streets and murdering people is an emotional void who wets the bed and tortures animals. Not every sociopath is emotionally vacant.
There's a 'switch' in the mind of a sociopath. Some people can willingly 'go cold,' shut off their feelings of empathy, and proceed to commit acts of heinous cruelty, then come home feeling refreshed and act like the world's greatest father, or the best dog owner in town.
The media's perception of sociopathy is a joke, I'd compare it to how we viewed the mentally challenged 40 years ago. There's a spectrum of illness, some people are uncaring to the point that they could rape their own mothers in front of their families and then push it out of their minds when it's time to go to bed. And there are others who would turn into a guilt-ridden mess if they did that.
Like you said, it's normal to be fascinated by gore. Plenty of normal people have seen snuff films on the internet out of curiosity or whatever other motivations drove them to make that decision. But if you're a violent psychopath you'll know deep down inside within seconds of watching one. If you don't experience a yearning to be there at the scene of the crime, getting a closer look at the action, then you probably don't have a penchant for violence.
It would still be entirely possible that you're a sociopath who's motivated by manipulation and improving your social standing. The only real way to determine whether you have the illness is to take stock of your decisions and examine them critically. If you treat people as means to an end, to be used for your own benefit, then you have some sociopathic tendencies. Despite what people here want you to believe, you don't have to be some awkward, unpleasant autistic to be a sociopath.
